What the checklist covers

Most organisations discover their exposure the hard way — a lift engineer fails an inspection, or a card terminal stops dialling out. The problem is rarely the phone system. It is that the copper network quietly carries a dozen other things nobody has thought about in fifteen years, and no single supplier owns the whole list.

Six sections, seventy checks, written for whoever ends up owning this — usually an office manager, operations lead or finance director rather than an IT specialist. It applies equally to charities and non-profits, which tend to be more exposed than commercial businesses: older premises, leased or peppercorn sites, shops and community halls, and capital spend that has to clear a funding round and a trustee meeting before anyone can order anything.
