GDPR Compliance

Are you ready?

In May 2018, a new EU-wide data protection regulation comes into force.

If it affects you, you will need to start thinking about compliance now.

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will affect every organisation in Europe that handles personal data of any kind. It will also affect any company that does business in the EU. The rules are complex and fines for non-compliance are significant (up to €20 million or 4% of annual turnover, which ever is greater).

Of course, its not just the financial impact – as a business owner, you also need to be mindful of the loss of reputation that comes with non-compliance!

You will need to think about GDPR compliance for your business in the context of people, process and systems, since the regulations impact all aspects of what you do.

You need to identify whether your business is a Processor or a Controller of data and register with the ICO accordingly. Typically, a small business will be both – in other words, you will be processing data as well as controlling it.
